3，4歳のころだと思う。
私がご飯つぶを食べ残すと、博多の祖母はよくこう教訓した。
「〇〇ちゃん、全部食べなさい。お米を無駄にすると罰があたって眼がつぶれるの。米粒の黄色いところにホトケ様がやどってるのよ。」と。
こども心に「怖いな」と思ったので、強く記憶に残った。
I think I was three or four years old.
My grandmother in Fukuoka city used to teach me this lesson whenever I left a mound of rice uneaten:
“Eat it all. If you waste rice, you will be punished and your eyes will be blinded. The yellow part of a grain of rice is where the Lord of rice is dwelling.”
I thought it was scary, and so it remained in my memory.
ごはんを残さないようにね
2年ほど前、スペインでおいしい「パエリア」を食べたとき、現地の人から「コメはひとつの『野菜』です。」と説明されて、びっくりした。
今年も、東京に住む孫が校外学習で信州の田植えに出かけた。
このたびの米騒動は、日本人にとってすごく象徴的な事件としてに歴史に残るのじゃないでしょうか。なんといっても「御」という「尊称」をつけてきたのですから。
民族の「こころ」のどまんなかに「お米」があるんじゃないでしょうか。
About two years ago, when I ate paella in Spain, I was surprised when a local guide explained to me that rice is a “vegetable.
This year again, my grandson, who lives in Tokyo, went to the Shinshu region for a “field trip” to plant rice.
This rice fiasco is symbolic for Japan.
After all, We have been attached the “honorific title” of “go（御）” to rice. I think that “rice” is at the center of the “heart” of the Japanese people.
